"While on my hunt with Gus, I saw a number of different animals. We saw otters, seals, bears, goats, deer and fox. Gus and my husband, Dick, spotted a nice buck deer about a half mile away. Gus asked if I wanted that deer, and of course I said yes. The deer had a nice rack and a good body size, so off we went. We made it to our spot and scoped the area. We spotted the deer and Gus said, "That's the one." So in place, I took a 300 yard shot and he was mine! Gus was just about as excited as I was. I can't say enough about the camp and Gus' wife, Koreen. Koreen did the cooking and a fabulous job taking care of things at the camp. Gus' guides are top of the line! And my husband and I will be going back in 2004!!"

The deer on Kodiak are finally starting to rebound after the winter die off of 1998. A few years ago we took a beautiful buck scoring #1 SCI for the year. In the past we have taken deer from this area scoring #6, #11, and #34 B&C. A great, affordable, fully guided hunt for five days. We start these hunts on November 6th.

In conjunction with our spring bear season we did an unofficial deer numbers survey this year and found that the animals seem to be coming back strong, after a lengthy recession. There were days when we saw up to fifty of them in one day. At this time of the year it is difficult to determine if they are going to have a good rack or not, but at least the numbers look very promising for a good fall season. Additional to our fee is the hunting license and big game tag fee.

Sitka Blacktail deer is the only animal we offer a drop type hunt for. These hunts are for a period of five days, including in and out days, and include all of the same amenities that our fully guided trips do. The only difference is that you are on your own in the field. We do put stipulations on the hunt in that there is a minimum group size of four, and no one hunts alone. Before allowing you in the field we will give you a briefing on the protocols of bear encounters and the laws regarding the salvage of your deer meat.
