Leo Torres brought his bow from Mexico to hunt for his brown bear on the Alaska Peninsula. His father told him "If you have a chance at a bear, don't be choosey, shoot it." Well Leo had his perfect opportunity with this seven footer." When we asked Leo what he had to say about us he said "Great hunt, great place, a lot of bears and outstanding people! Henry McLemore poses with his Kodiak Island brown bear. Several years ago when Henry came up from Louisiana to hunt Sitka Blacktail deer with a friend, he decided he wanted to come back for an Island brown bear. When someone else asked if he could postpne his hunt, Henry jumped at the chance to move his hunt up by a year. Henry was guided by Daniel Nicolai.

Nolan Crowther told us that his friend, Butch Zens, told him that if he was going to go on a hunt that he should go with Gus Lamoureux. Nolan came up from Idaho and was guided by Gus for this beautiful bear. When he arrived at camp he said "If I get my bear early, you won't make me leave, will you?" Before his bear was taken Nolan also got a nice Blacktail Buck. Double click on his bear picture to see an enlargement and the one of his deer. Nolan said he had so much fun on his Kodiak Island brown bear hunt that now he is coming for a moose on the Alaska Peninsula. Hopefully we will be able to post his picture for that one after September.

Kurt Schichtle was convinced to come on this hunt by his fellow Austrian, Ekkehard Sichler. We had a lot of fun with Kurt and Ekkehard. Jon Nichols, their guide, walked them across creeks and up into the snow. While crossing one of the creeks, Kurt fell and the eyepeice of the Leopold 3 x 9 scope was cracked, but Kurt was still able to make the single killing shot at 200 yards. Kurt said it was well worth the effort for this beautiful 9 1/2 foot bear.

"After eleven days of good, hard hunting,
the guide that Gus assigned me (Danny) spotted a very nice ten footer bear
so we decided to take it. After doing the correct approach we had a 180
yard shot to remember. Thanks to Gus and his wife, Koreen for all the excellent
attentions at camp. Even if I had not gotten my bear I still say that you
are a real professionals in your business, everything was controlled and
well planed, I am sure that you will continue with this efficient operation
you have up there in Alaska." Congratulations, Raúl Gerardo Salinas Saltillo Coah. México |

"Gus & Koreen's Kodiak Brown Bear
Camp offers the ultimate outdoor experience; World Class brown bear hunting,
great mountain goat and Sitka Black tail deer hunting. The best water I've
ever drank, gourmet class meals, cozy accommodations in their cabins, and
friendly professional guides. And, owners that will fast become your friends."
"I've bear hunted with them 5 times now, and have seen hundreds of
bear. I've passed up dozens of 9- 9 1/2 footers, and shot 2, the last of
which was the 10 footer I've been after. I will probably be going back after
the mega-bear ("not likely"- wife's quote)(well over 10'-I've
seen a couple of them over the years). Maybe even with my pistol or bow,
and I'll certainly be going after the Sitka Blacktail. They are fun to hunt,
taste great, and there are some real trophies to be had! My next hunt will
be for goat. "You might equal this hunt, scenery, and over all experience,
but I don't think you can ever surpass it. This truly is a "Trip of
a Lifetime! " -Tom Wyles |

We specialize in Coastal Alaskan Brown Bear hunts. These hunts are conducted in the prime areas of the Alaska Peninsula and Kodiak Island. For the past two years we have averaged bears between 9 and 10 foot at both our Kodiak and Ugashik camps. Most of our skulls have been between 25 and 28 inches, some have exceeded 29 inches. With the Alaska Peninsula having only one alternating season per year (even years- spring, odd years-fall), the bear population is abundant nearing to excessive. The most recent population survey puts the numbers at 3.8 bears per square mile. There is no permit draw to hunt brown bear in this area. Our spring hunt (even years) in this area starts on May 15th running through May 25th, which gives you 11 full days of hunting. The fall hunt (odd years) is 10 days of hunting from October 1st through October 10th. There are no combination hunts available, but you may take a wolf or wolverine at no extra charge if you have the appropriate tag. In the Ugashik Drainage, about 65 miles SE of King Salmon, we use our cabins as base camp, but most hunts are conducted from spike camps that range across an area encompassing nearly 600 square miles. Once you are successful you will return to base camp. Kodiak Island has had an exemplary management system for nearly 30 years, with an island wide bear per square mile average of 1.25. Kodiak has two seasons every year and in our area we are allowed three permits in the spring and two in the fall. These hunts run for twelve hunting days with the spring hunt beginning near the end of April and the fall hunt beginning near the end of October. This is a permit drawing area, where fortunately you will have no trouble drawing the permit if you follow our instructions. If you are further interested in this, or have questions, just get in touch with us and we will explain. The camp has two cabin and most hunts are based from here. We rarely use spike camps as the comfort level is so much higher without sacrificing average success.
